Planning CCTV, Networking and Access Control Before the Fit-Out Starts
Integrating CCTV, structured networking and access control during the design phase avoids costly rework later. Cabling routes, ceiling voids and partition locations are decided before any boarding goes up, which means the electrician and data technician can work to an agreed plan.
Key Areas to Address
- Structured cabling: Network points positioned for workstation clusters, not scattered after the fit-out is complete.
- CCTV coverage: Camera locations and cable runs planned during ceiling design so that conduits are in place before the false ceiling is boarded.
- Access control: Door lock compatibility with the partition and joinery package; wiring routed before joinery installation.
On live sites we have seen a significant reduction in change orders when the technical package is locked in during design and material selection. That said, every project is different — we assess each brief on its own merits.
