Timber Slat Ceilings and Cove Lighting: What It Takes to Get Them Right

Timber Slat Ceilings and Cove Lighting: What It Takes to Get Them Right

Timber slat ceilings add warmth and texture to a space while hiding services above. Each slat is fixed to a hidden grid, and the gaps between slats create a visual rhythm that can make a room feel larger.

Cove Lighting Integration

Cove lighting — concealed strips that wash light upwards into the gap between ceiling and wall — works especially well with slat ceilings. The reflected light softens the overall ambience and reduces glare on task surfaces.

When we install a slat ceiling, we typically embed the LED strips in the perimeter grid before the slats go in. This means the electrician and the carpenter need to coordinate on-site, which is why we always plan the lighting layout during the design phase.
